Cordless Phone Batteries

When shopping for cordless phone batteries, always keep in mind that compatibility is always an issue. You will need to choose the right ones for your particular cordless phone unit. And even when you find the right match, you still need to decide on the brand of the batteries.

Cordless phone batteries come in nickel cadmium, nickel-metal hydride, lithium, and lead acid rechargeable types. The difference among these batteries lies in their susceptibility to "memory effect." Batteries like nickel cadmium have a virtual memory that forces them to function at the same level of performance prior to recharging. Thus, it is important to fully discharge a nickel cadmium battery before recharging it to enjoy full efficiency. Lithium batteries, on the other hand, do not pose the same problem. They are also more lightweight. However, they are more expensive.

As a rule, all batteries need to be charged fully before first-time use. This prolongs battery life and ensures good performance. Cordless phone batteries take longer to charge. You may have to leave them charging for 24 hours, even when your charger indicates that the batteries are fully charged only after 10 to 15 minutes.

Cordless phone batteries, when given proper care and maintenance, can be used over and over again through a series recharging cycles for more than a year. When you are purchasing batteries, always ask for a warranty.

You can extend the life of your batteries by discharging them fully and regularly before fully charging them. You may do this routine every two to three weeks.

Afraid of wear and tear? Don't be. Cordless phone batteries perform better when used often. In fact, when you do not use them, they drain on their own. So if you are leaving for a vacation, remember to remove the batteries from the phone and store them in a cool, dry place. When you come back, you need to fully charge them again before you use your phone.
